Preparing for his next fight on April the 22nd, Darryll ‘The Ferocious’ Williams has said that his last opponent, Adam Jones was his toughest to date.
“My last fight was my toughest opponent, Adam Jones. Not because of what he could do, but what he could take. I hit him with the kitchen sink and he was still there.”
Despite this, Williams managed to outperform Jones, and walked away with an eight-round point’s victory. The fighter is now setting his sights on winning the English Super Middleweight title against 30 year old Jahmaine Smyle next month.
With each fight bringing new challenges, the Super Middleweight stated that for him, the best lesson he has learned in his career so far is to be patient.
“My best lesson has been to learn patience in a fight not rushing in and keeping my head not allowing yourself to be frustrated from being hit etc.”
With his next bout imminent, Darryll is training 6 days a week to ensure he is the one walking away with the English title.
“I train 6 days a week when in camp for a fight. I train like this for all fights, this fight being a title fight makes no difference, they are all title fights to me. I give the best output I can.”
Williams said that despite enjoying many aspects of his demanding training schedule, it can become boring at times.
“My favourite part of training is sparring and S&C. I don't really struggle with any part of training but I don't particularly like certain parts of training we all know boxing is repetitive and Boredom sets in.”
Along with physically preparing, Darryll spoke of the need to mentally prepare.
“I like to be alone when preparing for a fight I don't really want to talk much or go anywhere apart from the gym this helps me focus and get my mind in tune.”
This ability to focus the mind a box smartly is something that Williams admires when watching other boxers.
“I admire GGG for his aggressive fighting style and his punch power he also has a spectacular boxing brain some people may not agree with this but things he does in fights such as punch placement and cutting off the ring is very good.”
With his own career blossoming, Darryll has said that his dream world title fight would be against 'Saint George'.
“I would like to fight George Groves for a world title fight I think it would be a very exciting fight. I'm not sure about a British level, maybe someone like Rocky Fielding.“
With his future plans looking more achievable than ever, the focused fighter said that anyone looking to follow suit needs to make sure they are aware of how hard the boxing world can be.
“My advice for someone taking up boxing would be very sure that this is something you want to do the glitz glamour you see on television is not boxing this is a very hard and lonely road make sure you are strong enough mentally to be a fighter.”
